Foolish Games

Another rainy night...another sad dream...maybe a nightmare. It made her think...it made her cry. It made her remember him...and how she felt about him before he left her, and everyone else.

You took your coat off and stood in the rain
You're always crazy like that.


She remembered a night almost exactly like this one. He and his brother were outside. The rain on Al's armor made it clink and clank in the hollowed out suit. Edward's crimson jacket billowed in the wind and looked an even deeper shade of red, almost like blood, as he stood outside, staring up at her house.

And I watched from my window
Always felt I was outside looking in on you.


For the longest time he never told her anything...in fact, she found out a lot on her own. His past...his secrets. Did she try too hard? Was she trying too hard to reach to him? Those memories kept rushing back to her. His eyes...they always seemed so dark when she looked deep enough into them. Always hiding something from her...from the world.

But too cool to care.


They could joke...he could joke with her...so sensitive about little things to cover up his true weaknesses. ...She remembered the last time she saw him. He smiled at her and her grandmother, and said some silly thing that she couldn't remember.

Besides some comment on the weather.


She broke down crying hard in her dark bedroom. The rain pouring outside as her tears poured inside...inside of her heart.

Did he know? Did he ever know how everything was affecting her? Everything he did, everything he said...every look he gave her...every single moment they shared...together?

She looked out her window and stared at the ashes in the distance, that was the Elric brothers' home.

You're breaking my heart.


In her dream, it started with a happy feeling...and it was almost realistic. She had awoken to the sun shining outside, the smell of her grandmother's breakfast wafting to her nose. She heard Al's voice outside, a human, non-hollow voice, playing with Roze's child, and heard Ed's voice coming from downstairs, mildly arguing with her grandmother, then the both of them laughing about it soon after. She had walked down the stairs to meet them. Instead she found herself sitting and talking with Edward, both limbs completely in tact. He looked so cool and talked so well...almost cool enough to be seen in a newspaper ad, smoking and drinking coffee...
in her dream, however, they spoke to each other...as if it was just them. Her head spinned and she was happy, a soft tune playing music inside of her head...a guitar playing it...a happy and serene sound as he talked about his brother...and his mother.

As they talked, he told her everything...about his travels, his past, his secrets. The taught her everything she ever wanted to know about him. Everything she needed to know.

It was then that her dream became a nighmare. She was the one who didn't open up...she was the one keeping the secrets...she was the one hurting him. She felt his pain and sorrow and agony, every little teardrop that never fell.

Growing up, she thought she knew him. They were best friends, right? And even SHE always wanted it to be something more...but that could never happen. She THOUGHT she knew him...she thought too may things...

She cried into her sheets, held tightly against her chest.

Her sobs continued as they had before and as they would until she knew of Edward's safe return. She cried for his brother...she cried for him...but most of all, she cried for her heart.

Once again, she looked out of her window. The rain was still pouring down in the dead of night; pouring down on two figures...maybe just in her mind that longed for this image...he and his brother stood outside. She forced herself to believe that he was gone forever, never to return to her and laid back down to try and sleep though her dreams of memories and nightmares. In the morning, the sun seemed too happy as it almost always had...mocking her.
She walked outside as a normal routine, but instead found a rain soaked red jacket....identical to Edward's...was he really there? Did she miss her one and only chance to see him? To talk to him? To tell him? As she slowly bent down to pick up the jacket, the memory, Alphonse watched from a distance. "I'll bring him back...I promise."

PS: I may have made the icon, but I don't support the shaking of babies and/or Shaken Baby Syndrome (SDS). Don't shake babies. It hurts their brains due to the softness of their craniums and the fact that the brain isn't completely attached until later. Also, if the miracle has occured that after a baby has been shaken and he/she is still alive, they turn out mentally challenged.
My advice? Be patient if the child is difficult and whatever you do, DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT take your aggression out on a child, no matter WHAT age.

Well now that THAT'S said and done (and my Child Development lesson is overwith), we can all laugh at my icon~ yay!
